mesjid shah alam
The most recogniseable landmark of Shah Alam, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque is one of the most beautiful buildings in the country. It is also known as “The Blue Mosque of the East” in reference to the Blue Mosque in Turkey.
Its four minarets, at 142.3 meters are among the tallest in the world. Its graceful blue dome is one of the largest of its kind (hence the nickname the Blue Mosque). The dome’s computer-designed lighting system creates the illusion of being in the desert on a star-filled night inside the mosque.
Decorative Islamic calligraphy enhances the dome and main prayer-hall, while the overall architecture integrates ethnic Malay, Arabic and modern design elements. The mosque is a holy place of superlatives that can accommodate about 24,000 worshippers at one time.
